Nerlens Noel NBA lawsuit could reveal an interesting financial gambit that benefited other players at Noel's expense.

What a harsh difference between the contract Nerlens Noel was allegedly offered and turned down, versus what he ended up signing. Allegedly Noel was offered 4 years at 70 million dollars but was told by his agent to turn it down because he deserved a Max contract.
Instead of 4 years at 70 million dollars, Noel ended up signing a 2 year, 3.75 million dollar contract, WOW, what a difference.

If it is true that Mr. Noel's agent told him he deserved a Max deal, then I am simply speculating there could have been an ulterior motive for throwing Mr. Noel to the Max Wolves.

I doubt a defensive specialist who is not a starter can nab a Max contract. If it is true that Noel's agent said he deserved a Max contract, is it possible that Noel was indeed set up by other people around him? Noel's refusal of a generous 4 year 70 million dollar deal could have created a temporary panic increase on contract offers being made to other players who may be more than defensive specialists.

If Noel is going to turn down a 4 year 70 million dollar offer, then that rejected offer could be cleverly used as a bargaining chip to get another player a much higher contract offer. "See, Noel turned down 4 years for 70 million, therefore player X is worth 4 years, 110 million".

There could be tangental merit to Noel's claim, but proving it may be difficult, or, maybe not. While Noel may have to take responsibility for believing he deserved something he obviously did not deserve, a Max contract, if others were able to create better deals after getting Noel to reject a fantastic offer, then this may need to be looked into to ensure it does not keep happening.
